A question for the New Year. We’re in this together.

In just a few days, we’ll say goodbye to 2022 and welcome in a brand new year – one full of possibilities, challenges, and new experiences.

welcoming the new year

As I was reflecting on this past year in preparation for the new one, I realized that 2022 has been a huge year of change for me. It’s oftentimes felt unstable, confusing, erratic, and difficult to navigate. But in the midst of it, I’ve also learned more about myself than I’ve ever known before. It’s been a beautiful journey, even if it hasn’t always felt like it.

What I am most looking forward to in 2023 is stability. I have really been missing a more consistent routine or rhythm of life. At the same time, I also know that change is inevitable, and stability may not always be an option. Instead of waiting and hoping that the outside world brings me what I want, I am going to work toward nourishing the internal stability that is taking root within me. I am going to look for ways to create moments of stillness and security inside. And I am going to give attention to building consistent routines that support these moments.

What did you miss in 2022 that might be supportive or helpful for you in 2023?

Did you stop moving your body in ways that felt life-giving? Did you have the goal of working on your emotional wellness, but end up putting it off in favor of something that seemed more urgent? Maybe you’ve faced some really hard things this year and are ready for a period of rest and solitude. Whatever it is, I want to encourage you to look at it through a lens of compassion – both toward yourself and others. This exercise isn’t to shame you into regretting what you didn’t accomplish, but to help you reflect on what you might need in the coming year.

happy new year 2023

Even if this year was challenging for you, you made it. You’re here. You’re headed into a new year, and you get to decide what you’re going to continue to carry with you and what new things would be supportive to bring in with you.

I hope you are soaking up these final days of 2022, and I’ll see you in the new year.

We’re in this together,

Jen
